Christian commitment is the spiritual act of living out what you say you believe. Unless commitment is made, there are promises and hopes but no plans. You never hear Jesus say in Pilate’s judgement hall one word that would let you imagine that He was sorry that He had undertaken so costly a sacrifice for us. Nothing shapes your life more than the commitments you choose to make. I am not called to be successful, I am called to be faithful. In all true faith there is complete committal to God. You can be committed to Church but not committed to Christ, but you cannot be committed to Christ and not committed to church. The Christian life is not adding Jesus to one’s own way of life but renouncing that personal way of life for His and being willing to pay whatever cost that may require. Many Christians ‘stall out’ in the faith when the call to total commitment is received or viewed as something too high or too hard to acquire…or they have never been taught that total commitment is Christ’s demand for all His followers. Keep your promises to God and to those with whom you have entered into covenant. Is it characterized by faithfulness? God is faithful. What wonderful blessings flow from faithfulness in keeping our vows. We who trust Christ must not allow the world to squeeze us into its mould. Unfaithfulness in the key relationships of life is a common failure for many people in contemporary society. Integrity is keeping a commitment even after circumstances have changed.
